In The Heart of the Musical

In celebrating its 10th Anniversary, the SMU Chamber Choir, in collaboration with SMU Symphonia, is proud to present an original aural spectacular in this year’s “In the Heart of the Musical”.

The traditional setting of the theatre is redefined with the choir and band encircling the audience to deliver a remarkable 360-degree performance. Stripped of the conventional stage, the audience will rediscover musicals with a completely new surround-sound experience right in the centre of the performance.

“In the Heart of the Musical” is an immersive journey that takes you through timeless classics, including an exclusively arranged Les Misérables medley.

Cornucopia

Leave your notions of Chinese music at the door. Cornucopia invites you into the stunning realms of jazz-fusion and contemporary music to discover the modern definition of the traditional Chinese orchestra.

Cornucopia comprises a series of contemporary chamber works rescored for Chinese instruments. Instead of the huge fanfare associated with Chinese orchestra music, the performance will feature chamber works deviating from traditional tonality, while maintaining the beauty of the oriental overtures.

Ignite

Journey through the evolution of street dance – from hip-hop and breakdancing, to the various funk moves we have today.

Originating from the US in the 70s, funk incorporates a variety of ‘popping’ and ‘locking’ movements, and an infusion of high-adrenalin dance styles choreographed to funk music.

Learn more about the exciting world of funk as energetic dancers from SMU Funk Movement showcase the visual, musical and geographical differences behind various forms of street dance. Marvel at the possibilities as these styles are combined across different genres.

Igniting the thrill is live music from SMU Voix and SMU Music Interactive Club, and guest performances by SMU Eurhythmix (Breakers).
