Q1A: Who conducts regular training for the club?

A1: Name of trainer, brief bio and link to profile, if any. (Please clear with the trainer on this)

Q1B: Are there regular CCA sessions?

A1: We do not have regular CCA sessions, but this semester (AY 2021/2022 Term 1), we are piloting a Writing Circle in which members can gather weekly or fortnightly on Friday evenings to discuss and experiment with writing techniques.

Q2: Does the club participate in competitions?

A2: We are on the lookout for competition opportunities and encourage members to take part as well!

Q3: Does the club publish?

A3: We are looking to publish our first-ever anthology this year! Do also look out for our emails, and submit your works to our website (https://www.smu-literati.com/) for them to be featured!

Q4: Must you have a background in literature to join?

A4: Absolutely not! We welcome all budding poets and readers alike. In fact, join us and you may find our members providing you with further recommendations!

Q5: Why should I join?

A5: We are looking to foster an active culture of writing and reading, and you can most definitely contribute to our community as the club takes a step in this direction!

SMU Literati is a calm breeze in the hailstorm of academics. It's given me a comforting avenue to express myself creatively. I'm glad to be a part of a warm community of writers who support, push, and help each other grow through contests and insightful workshops all year round.

SMU Literati is a student club under the Arts and Cultural Fraternity (ACF) cluster that specialises in literature and poetry. A recreational club in nature, we promote the expression of literature in written and spoken form amongst SMU students, and partake in Singapore’s literary scene. We strive to cater to the interests of students where literature and poetry are concerned.

You may expect writing opportunities from our collaborative initiatives with National Gallery of Singapore, Migrant Writers of Singapore and BeKindSG. We also have Writing Circles where members can bounce writing ideas off one another, and receive feedback from your fellow writers. You may also anticipate the publication of Literati’s first-ever anthology!

Our key events include typewriter workshops, literary discussions, poetry competitions and writing exchanges.

FAQ

SMU Literati has been great in providing me with a platform to express myself creatively through words. Writing for the weekly prompts was a great outlet for my stress throughout the semester 😊
